2010 - A new year and an old request.
Happy New Year, Mockers. We begin the new year with an old story. Old because, well it isn't new! In August 2008, The Sunday Times magazine published Jill Greenberg's photo's of children crying and upset called "Taking Candy from a baby". As you can probably guess from the title, Greenberg took candy from babies. As this was done, she photographed their reactions. It caused a lot of debate as to whether she exploited the babies for the sake of art but our story doesn't center on that debate.I picked up the magazine at a friends place. We'll call her Lina, because that's her name. As you can see the pictures are striking, to say the least which is exactly what Greenberg wanted them to be. Our story centers on the fact that I wanted to take the magazine with me to show some other people and ask their opinions on it. When I asked if I could do this, I was told No, No, No or in Lina's language, Nej, Nej, Nej. Lina explained that she wanted to keep the magazine. There's a little known saying in my head which goes something like "friends give each other magazines". In this instance, I wasn't given the magazine and was slightly confused as to why not. Because of this, I asked again and once again, the request received a Nej, Nej, Nej. Since that day, I have asked many times for the magazine which lives under a table, close to the television and have always received an negative answer. My latest request will be today when I will show Lina this post and see if it helps change her mind. More than likely it will not but the guy up above loves a trier and try I shall. To be cont...
